Love the planet, love your bottom line

Accountancy firm Francis Clark is co-hosting a breakfast seminar in Truro to discuss why embracing a low carbon economy can be good for business, and to introduce ‘carbon accounting’.

The free to attend breakfast will be held on Tuesday 31 January at Epiphany House, where Francis Clark will be joined by Cornwall Development Company, MPAD and TJ International Ltd to speak at the event.

Topics covered at the seminar will include the challenging targets for reduction of green house emissions set for the county by Cornwall Council and the implications for SMEs, as well as some of the reasons why many Cornish SMEs have already placed low carbon at the centre of their business strategy.

Award-winning pioneers in low carbon business will demonstrate practical and inspirational examples of how to reduce the carbon footprint of your business and the profit implications of doing so, and an update will be given on a Carbon Benchmarking tool being developed under the Superfast Cornwall Programme.

Richard Wadman, part of the Energy and Sustainability team at Francis Clark, which merged with Truro-based Winter Rule last year said: “It’s all very well being told that we should embrace a low carbon economy because it’s the right thing to do and the best thing for the environment, but people often fail to explain why it’s in the best interest of the businesses.

“Our breakfast seminar will help to demonstrate how going low carbon can be good for your bottom line, with some great examples from companies in Cornwall which have led the way in reducing their carbon footprint.  We will also be introduced to carbon accounting and the next stage, which may be the environmental profit and loss account on which sportswear company Puma have taken the lead”.

The ‘Love the planet: Love your bottom line’ seminar will run from 8am – 10am on Tuesday 31 January. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

There will also be an opportunity for one attendee to win the critically acclaimed book ‘How Bad Are Bananas? The Carbon Footprint of Everything’, by Mike Berners-Lee by entering a free business card draw at the event.
