Grants for Biomass or Combined Heat & Power (“CHP”) Plants
Are you considering investing in either biomass or CHP plants ?
If so, are you aware that it could be possible to secure a grant of up to £500,000 towards the costs of installation?
The Department of Energy & Climate Change (‘DECC’) have just announced the latest round of grant funding towards projects fuelled by eligible biomass. This is defined as fuel where least 90% of the energy content is derived from plant or animal matter or substances. It includes, but is not restricted to: purpose-grown energy crops; clean wood fuel derived from forestry operations, arboricultural tree management and primary processing, including saw milling; wood waste and residues, agricultural residues and food industry wastes and residues.
The grant funding available is up to a maximum of 40% of the difference in cost between a biomass boiler and its fossil fuel alternative. Some eligible schemes can also secure ROCs and the capital grant.
The grant scheme is open to public and private sector organisations but applications must be submitted before 31 March 2010.
