David Armstrong has moved from the mergers and acquisitions team at Ernst & Young’s Exeter office to join the corporate department at Francis Clark. Although based in Plymouth, David will have a free–roaming role helping to continue to grow Francis Clark’s presence and reputation across the South West.
Following recent changes at the Exeter office of “Big Four” accountancy firm, Ernst & Young, David has chosen to take his knowledge and experience to Francis Clark and return to his Plymouth and Cornwall roots.
He said: “Once Ernst & Young decided to close part of their Exeter office the decision to join Francis Clark was a very easy one. For several years many of us had considered Francis Clark as our main competition in the privately owned business advisory world, both in terms of audit and tax, and corporate finance advisory. However, it is only since joining Francis Clark that I have really come to appreciate the breadth of the client base and the depth of the skills and knowledge held within the firm.”
David will be well known to many businesses in Plymouth and Cornwall after spending several years with PwC in Plymouth and from his expertise in securing a wide range of grants for businesses across the South West. He is probably the most experienced grant advisor in the South West having worked over the years on most of the major grant applications in the region for a wide range of companies operating in a variety of sectors. Since his arrival, he has already managed to obtain approval for significant grants for two local businesses. He also has wide corporate finance experience after working on a range of transactions in recent years.
He commented: “After spending all of my working life with ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms I am very enthusiastic and keen to bring my extensive grants experience for the benefit of Francis Clark, but also to use my knowledge of local companies to help continue its impressive growth record of previous years.”
Mark Greaves, head of corporate finance at Francis Clark, welcomed David into the team. He said: “David’s vast experience in grants and related corporate finance work is an excellent addition to the team, and complements our recruitment earlier this year of Tom Kingston to boost our valuation service. Despite the current gloom regarding deals, we remain busy having had four completions in recent weeks, and look forward to keeping David busy.”
Outside of work, David is a keen surfer and looks forward to spending more time combining surfing with advising clients and companies in the South West.
