Purpose

Our client, Sutton Seeds, is currently looking for a Financial Controller. This is a new role and exciting opportunity to join an established 200 year old company with £15m turnover based in Paignton, Devon.  Whilst the sale of flower and vegetable seeds remains the largest contributor, over recent years the Company has diversified in providing additional garden products and initiating a direct mailing service providing a B2C revenue opportunity not only for its own products but also as a solution for third parties retaining their own brand identity.

 

Reporting directly to the Managing Director with support from the Part Time Finance Director, you will be the finance prime of the company, managing a growing team (currently 6) with very strong organisational and technical skills and proven track record within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Production of monthly management accounts, including processing journals and accruals and investigating any variances

  • Analysing month and year to date performance, reporting on any variances to budget and forecast

  • Preparing Management and Board reports clearly identifying successes and key risks of the business

  • Reviewing costs to identify cost savings, leading the improvement measures.

  • Management of cash flow

  • Timely and accurate preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns and monthly Intrastat and EC sales returns

  • Overseeing weekly and monthly payroll

  • Preparing budgets and forecasts and liaising with budget holders

  • Responsible for the creation of finance policies

  • Improvement and monitoring of internal processes and controls

  • Liaising with managers to ensure mutual awareness of issues, current developments and priorities of the company

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills

  • Management of Credit Control function

  • Managing, mentoring and supporting the finance team

Knowledge, skills and attributes
  • CIMA qualified with a minimum of 5 years PQE, ideally with a relevant degree and supporting A levels and GCSE’s/ ‘O’ Levels of grade C or above.

  • Significant experience in manufacturing accounting environment essential, with systems implementation experience an advantage.  Advanced excel skills also essential for accurate analysis and financial reporting.

  • The candidate must have experience of leading a team, yet also an excellent team player, mentoring the Finance Team to ensure each achieves their personal and professional potential.

     

    Salary £40,000 - £45,000
